NTJSA Results for May 28th

Mixed results for Rangers in round 2.

Under 12 boys went down 5-2 to North Launceston Eagles. NLE are perhaps the best side in the competition, with some quite skilled players for their age. Our boys fought hard, but lost the ball going up the middle too often. Zac Reid showed great courage and determination in a game where little luck and few decisions fell our way.

14 Red again dominated a lacklustre George Town, eventually defeating them 12-0 for the second time this season. Both sides had players out, in a game that resembled the champion's league final in terms of one team's domination of possession over another. Logan Veldhuis played his best game of the year, hitting a target with just about every pass.

14 Blue defeated the Westside Colts 2-0. The Blues have been prolific scorers all year, but lost early seeding and cup games because they conceded too many. The Colts are not weak opposition, and to hold them to nil is a big step for the Blues. It shows a growth in maturity, which will certainly be required if they are to triumph in a  division 2 competition which is very even in the top half.

14 White came back to earth after a dominant performance in round 1. Playing on the slightly larger ground 10, ball watching and a lack of fitness left our midfield under manned on too many occasions. Despite this, the 3-1 loss, and the opening offside goal going against us, we played the better football and created more opportunities, however we provided the opposition goalkeeper with 8 simple chest marks for the day, and ultimately that was costly.

Senior Girls went down to Deloraine in a game which was also disappointing after last week. Missing key players, the girls were up 1-0 at the break. Maddi Reitsema was crudely hacked from behind early in the match and hobbled from the ground with nothing for her trouble. The girls were outplayed in the second half going down 3-1. Courtney Salter, the smallest player in the team, played with the biggest heart, and battled hard all day.

16 Red defeated North Launceston Eagles 5-2. A soft penalty converted by NLE, and a penalty missed by Rangers, and the scoreboard probably flattered NLE. Tannar Hinds played his best game for the year, as did Jonathan Jeffery who also popped up for his first Rangers goal. Not as precise as round 1, but the boys are playing good possession football.

The same can't be said for 16 Blue, with an insipid performance against the Cavaliers, who were not strong opposition. The game was not played well by either team with a lot of kick and chase football. Neither team were able to string 5 passes together at any point in the game. Tim Laws ran hard all game, but had too few friends. Can improve. Must improve. All players at training would be a big first step.

Matches as normal this week before a 2 week break. Full roster will be available after the holidays. Can players please now attend to unpaid registrations. Thanks.
