Co Coach Gabriel Tams said he was happy with the progress of the clubs flag ship side, despite going down 4-0 to Ulverstone in game two of the Launceston City run, Mies Family Cup.
Rangers only had three of last years senior side in the game, opting to give new players and younger talent an opportunity to get a feel for the clubs playing style.
Ulverstone on the other hand looked closer to what is expected to be their senior side, and in the first half they were indeed dominant. Three goals to half time and one particularly fine strike from Ben Foote had the coastal outfit well out in front, but Rangers settled in the second half and improved out of sight with some promising displays from a number of players.
Ulverstone scored one final goal in the second half, but this was very much against the run of play, without taking anything away from the Ulverstone performance.
Rangers created some good chances in the second half and could have scored three goals, if not for the “Silky” performance from the Ulverstone goal keeper, who was in fine form.
Brendon Mulder hit the cross bar, Agele Luate was denied by a fine one on one save and Nick Richardson had a fine effort cleared off the line.
All in all, the results were not there on the score board, but they were in giving some of the clubs young players the opportunity to test themselves prior to the Hudson Cup.
Congratulations to Launceston City on running what was a successful and enjoyable tournament. |
