With a good number of players unavailable due to school / college holidays Coach John Crooks had the opportunity to bring up Under 16s into the side, naming 4 on the bench.
Rangers began the game well dominating play throughout the park, and within in the first 20-25 min of the game Olympic were on the back-foot pinned into the defending third of the ground. Riverside had not lost a game since last meeting Rangers and this time around were determined, but to no avail. Rangers were the superior team during the opening and should and could have got a few during the opening play, but it was not until a well timed substitution of Kieran Van Donselaar for his younger brother Caleb did Rangers manage to break-down the Olympic defence. Caleb was played into a wide left position and worked his way into the box, his driven shotwas parried into the path of the oncoming Hayden Vandervelde who easily slotted the ball home on the 30th minute.
On the 35 minute Rangers coach sent on Alex Fulton who has been training with the Under18s in his own position as a defender. He replaced top striker John Wani up front and his first touch of the ball was placing it in the back of the net to give Rangers a 2-0 going into the break.
After the break Rangers continued from where they had finished off, the pressure proved too much for the Riverside team who were reduced to 10 men after a second yellow had to be shown. Riverside in the first half, had continually committed offence after offence and the second half began where they had left off however, Rangers were advised at half-time not to become involved in petty play and remained cool. In the 18th minute, top scorer John Wani made it 3-0 and shortly after this Riverside not only were 3-0 down but due to their conduct found themselves 2 players down also, as another was sent off.
Instead of taking numerical advantage though, Rangers seemed to struggle against the 9 men and soon found to be paying the penalty for this as Olympic scored 2 goals against the run of play before Kieran Van Donselaar with a well struck shot managed to provide the 4th oal for Rangers a minute after Riversides second goal, making the final score 4-2 in Ranger favour.
Following the final whistle Rangers Coach Johm Crooks commented on the input of the 4 Under 16s brought into the squad and congratulated them all on a fine performance further stating "that there was a point in the game where 6 Under 16s were on the park" proving Rangers development was in good hands with Rod Fulton, and he went on to thank the supporters in the stand who were in great spirits and showed their appreciation to the boys as they left the ground.
