UNDER 18s DESERVED WIN

Away to Burnie is never an easy game and with Rangers only having 13 players available from a squad of 18 was going to put more pressure on them. However, Coach John Crooks had no reason to worry for the young Rangers began the game as they did the previous week at Devonport and with the wind behind them made their intentions clear from the start.

Within the opening minutes they had the Burnie defence under pressure by moving the ball around quick, the Burnie defence gave away a free-kick on the 10th minute, 30 yds. Out Yitay Towns stepped up to take it and place the ball over the wall and heading for the top far side of goal leaving the goalkeeper with no chance of stopping it going into the net.

With a 1-0 lead, Rangers passing and running off the ball caused Burnie all sorts of problems.  When a shot came back of the post and was then hit back in off the keeper, Zac Pearce pushed it over the line on the 30th minute making it 2-0.

Rangers top goal scorer John Wani was in fine form and causing their defence all kinds of problems, after good passing through the midfield the ball was played forward aimed at John who ran onto the through ball just past the half-way line and with defenders chasing him all the way into the box, he placed the ball beyond the advancing keeper and making it 3-0 shortly before half-time.

At half-time the worry for Rangers was the injury to Kody Heys and the decision was that he could not take any further part in the game which left Rangers with only 1 on the bench and playing into the wind for the second half, could they hold onto the 3-0 lead?

This question was soon answered as the Rangers defence were breaking down the Burnie front runners time after time.  The side cleverly followed the Coaches half-time talk by making sure that all clearances from defence were played along the ground.   Zac Pearce could and should have finished 2 good chances early in the half but it was Hayden Vandervelde who had been chasing every ball and extended the score to 4-0.

Burnie managed to get on the score sheet on the 36th minute of the half which was very quickly answered when their full-back made a bad back pass to the advancing keeper which Kieran Van Donselaar latched onto and passed the ball across the goal mouth for Hayden Vanderveld to add to his tally for the day and keep him up with John Wani in second spot of the goal scorer table.

A deserved 5 - 1 away win with every Rangers player contributing on a positive note and looking forward to the next game.
