This week saw a clash of the top of the table teams with Rangers needing to win to stay in contention for top place and knowing a win would put them top but only on goal difference. Launceston were coming from an away win at Somerset and Rangers from an away loss to Ulverstone at Devonport prior to the Easter break.
Both sides were intent on playing good football on the main ground and this encounter lived up to the expectations, throughout the first half both sides created chances up front and in midfield there was a lot of to and fro and both defences tried to defend the goal scoring opportunities and both sides were up to the task. This was a good game for the spectators, as each side tried to break through but at half-time it remained 0 - 0.
The second half began with Rangers taking control and through well played passage of play saw Zac Pearce given an open goal which he had the easiest of tap-ins to put Rangers in front. This was not to last for long as United put some pressure on the Rangers defence and within 10 minutes saw the equalizer, from here the game continued to and fro with each side creating chances to go in front both managing to hit the post and both keepers doing their jobs well behind the defence until Launceston’s keeper had to leave the field of play after a challenge by Rangers top scores John Wani in a 50/50 situation.
With the scores level with 15 minutes to go Launceston from a deep cross, managed to finally break the Rangers defence and slot the ball home giving Launceston the advantage of the game and the League as they have the bye next week and Rangers face Somerset at home.
Rangers appeared to miss the influence of Yitay Towns in midfield, while the new combination of Adam Letter and Micah Landon-Lane worked well as the central defenders regardless of the outcome of this game. |
