3-0 Win to the Rangers 18's have them back in the hunt.

The Under 18s went into this game away to Devonport with several players missing due to school commitments thanks to school holidays/camps etc. Coach John Crooks had been reminding the players all week at training how important this game was in the lead up to the conclusion of the first half of the season.

zac pearceKnowing all the squad was not going to be available training with Gareth Otley and John Crooks through the week had well prepared the side for what could possibly be their ‘make-or-break’ on how the second half of the season would eventuate.

On the day, Rangers decided that going with the wind in the first half would be to their advantage and began the game from the start putting the home side under an enormous amount of pressure. Within the opening minutes the results should have shown on the score board to Rangers favour.

20 minutes in Kiren Vandonselaar, from a through ball found the back of the net. This came from some great first-time touches from defence, through to the mid-field and on up to Vandonselaar in attack.

From some very strong passages of play on the Rangers part saw what should have been Number 2 when the Devonport keeper, in an attempt to save the ball, found himself in the back of the net, with the ball, without any force from a Ranger player, yet the appointed official chose to disregard the linesman decision and allowed play to continue with no regard as to what had just happened.

From here Rangers had the game under control and from effort after effort dominated the game all over the park, which led to a second and third goal from Zac Pearce up front.

The dominance was not as clear as it could or should have been by half time. Rangers could have went into the break by far more due to the style and commitment of play but with a 3 - 0 lead Crooks was feeling comfortable.

Going into the wind in the second half and up against a side that had just received the ‘pen-ultimate’ put down by a Coach, that the Rangers players have ever witnessed, playing to the instruction of the Coach, Rangers remained calm and did what was asked of them by playing the ball and remaining in possession, which was frustrating the home side. who with the wind behind them could not penetrate a very tight and well organised Rangers defence which resulted in an away win of 3 - 0.

This was a great Rangers performance which impressed not only the Rangers officials but did bring some great comments from Devonport officials to John Crooks the Coach.
