The Reserves were looking to finish the year on a high following their good form over the last month, coming up against Devonport who could potentially win the title with the win. Rangers were even more intent of stopping this from happening.
Devonport had the use of Allan Eadie upfront who has been struggling with injury but Rangers had Patty Lanu-Atkinson back while Rohan Pooley couldn’t commit to start with his ongoing hamstring injuries and Rangers lost his leadership and distribution.
A strong start by both sides saw Devonport looking particularly dangerous in front of goal, but again the Ranger back line were outstanding, particularly Tenzing Anderson.
Rangers went ahead just before half time thanks to a great run from Joey Summers who struck on the edge of the 18 yard box and beat the keeper, Rangers dug in and held the lead to half time.
Devonport came out in the second half determined to win the game back and looked strong from the restart, but after several chances Rangers broke away and sent Chad Honey through on goal and he finished with perfection and potentially equalled the top of the leading goal scorers table for the league.
With the wind getting stronger in the backs of the Rangers reserves it looked a certain win at 2-0, but the legs grew weary and Devonport kept coming, some good saves kept Rangers in the lead, and if Devonport had have scored, it could have spelled disaster, but Rangers held firm to the clean sheet and won 2-0 at the end of the day.
Adam Whitemore said after the game – “Yet another excellent performance, ball movement was great and we were defensively very solid and disciplined.
Three wins and a draw is a great end to the season and the quality of play has been really impressive at times.”
