Rohan Pooley Scores in Reserve Win

The Northern Rangers Reserves went to Somerset expecting a reasonably easy game against the bottom side in the league by some distance, and that’s pretty much what they got.

reserves_rohan_pooleyBrendan Lichtendonk had stepped aside to give the clubs Under 18 keeper a taste of Reserves football, Alex Bligh took his opportunity and performed like a seasoned campaigner, Bligh has a bright future if he continues to develop the way he has so far.

Tenzing Anderson also an Under 18, and indeed still qualifies for Under 16’s started at right back again this week, and had another fine game, showing maturity beyond his years and outplayed his much “older” opponents with little fuss.

The Reserves have a much younger squad this year and are starting to gel quiet well.

After winning a corner Rangers were on the score board, but the goal scorer was Rohan Pooley, many in the ground were unsure if what they had just seen was indeed fact, but after the dust settled, it was clear, Rohan Pooley had actually scored a goal! 1-0 Rangers.

Chad Honey was making some dangerous runs, but found him self running away from the ball too often rather than presenting options for feet and laying off, however he set up Josh vanZetten for the second goal with a great cut back for vanZetten to tap in

Honey then got himself a goal with great determination to win a ball that the Somerset defender thought was gone, Honey snatched the chance and slammed home the shot.

reserves_tenzing_andersonAfter the half time break, Rangers continued to dominate, Brendon Mulder again had a great game, running and distributing the ball well.

Peter Mebeath was introduced to the game after an hour and scored with possibly his first touch of the game, volleying home the fourth and final goal of the game.

Adam Whitemore said after the game.” Another good effort from the reserves. Some excellent football at times. Great to see fullbacks who are so willing to attack.

Really rewarding to see the development of Josh vanZetten, Marcus Vanderharst, Tenzing Anderson and Brendon Mulder, who provided the highlight of the day with a great bit of skill, bringing the ball down at centre back, flicking it over an opponent and then playing it out from the back.

Alex was solid on debut in goal, and started many attacks with quick distribution.

Next week we'll look to bring Tom and Josh Burk into the squad as they are 2 more for the future.”
